What is a sliding pocket door?
The sliding pocket door is a sliding door whose mobile panel is hidden inside the wall when it is opened. The door(s) can be manipulated thanks to a track fixed under the ceiling. This sliding hardware allows the doors to slide in a totally discreet way! Moreover, the wall remains completely clear.
To hide the door in the wall, there are two possibilities:
- either to double the wall (but you lose some floor space, if it is a concrete wall)
- or to install a steel frame or a wooden structure. Whatever the structure you choose, the drywall is going to cover it.

With the sliding pocket door, you gain space on all levels
Since it does not have the clearance of a conventional door, the sliding pocket door allows you to gain in surface area and the wall remains completely clear. In opened or closed position, the sliding pocket door leaves the wall free, which allows to decorate the wall according to one’s desires and to create new opportunities of arrangement. For example, with a sliding pocket door it becomes possible to install a desk or a shelf against the wall, or to temporarily push the furniture to welcome guests.
A discreet and aesthetic sliding pocket door
Although unnoticeable in the open position, the sliding pocket door remains a decorative element when closed or half-closed.
Sliding pocket doors can be solid, alveolar or glazed. Solid wood, MDF or medium panels, PVC or metal are among the materials regularly used with different expectations in terms of design and atmosphere.
With wood, it is the natural species that define the color palette for a very authentic result: the luminous pine, the beige brown ash, or the darker oak. Plastics have the advantage of lightness. Metals are suitable for modern and contemporary atmospheres. Then the metallic aspect accompanies the industrial style glass walls. The door can be entirely glazed or associated with wood.
Choosing a glass door
The advantage of glass is that natural light is diffused through separate spaces. It is a great solution when you install a new door!
However, it usually raises the question of the safety of a large sliding glass. This very aesthetic choice implies a certain vigilance regarding the quality of the glass. To hold the glass doors, a clamp system from the SLID’UP 190 range has been specially designed! No need to drill into the glass. For a good adhesion to the glass, you need to install the silicone pads in the clamps. In the kits we offer for glass doors, you will also find a 78″ or 106″ track (your choice), wall-mouting brackets, stoppers, a floor guide and adhesive handles.
If you meet the criteria and safety precautions, the transparent glass door is as durable and strong as a solid door.
The handle has a new look on sliding doors
The handle is not the first element that comes to mind when defining a sliding pocket door installation project. And for good reason, this essential accessory is relatively discreet on sliding hardware, and more particularly on pocket doors so that they can slide without constraint in the partition. The door handle is usually recessed and can be equipped with a finger pull to simplify handling. All shapes are possible, and relief is not necessarily excluded if it does not compromise the operation of the door.
